fans from trees

On request of the Worshipful Company of Fan Makers, this series of fans explore relations between our products and where the materials come from.

The leaves of the fans are handmade from actual leaves sourced from various locations across London during the Autumn months. They were on display with accompanying plaques that gave information on the trees and coordinates to their locations.

The sticks are carved from wood collected from a singular tree, and the solution developed contains only one additional ingredient as a binder.

This project was selected by the Worshipful Company of Fan Makers as part of a competition, being awarded a placement at West Dean College of Arts and Conservation on a week-long Fan Making residency.
